Privacy Notice

Effective date: August 30, 2026

This Privacy Notice explains how Nick von Kaenel, the individual operating under the name nvk.tools ("nvk.tools," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, and retains information when you visit nvk.tools, purchase or use nvk.tools software, activate a license, join the mailing list, or request support.

1. Information we process

Depending on how you interact with nvk.tools, we may process the following information:

  • Purchase and license information: your email address, purchased product, license quantity, license key, transaction and purchaser identifiers, purchase date, country associated with the transaction, and whether a purchase was refunded, disputed, or charged back. Purchases are processed by Gumroad, which provides information needed to fulfill and validate the license.
  • Activation information: the product name, license key, an installation identifier derived from your computer, activation count or status, and authorization results. The installation identifier is used to distinguish installations and enforce the applicable license quantity. It is not intended to reveal the contents of your computer.
  • Website and technical information: IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps, referring pages, and security or diagnostic logs that may be generated by our hosting and infrastructure providers.
  • Support and communications: your name, email address, Discord username if you contact us there, the contents of your messages, and files or technical information you choose to provide.
  • Mailing-list information: your email address and subscription status when you subscribe through the Gumroad form on our website.

Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, or other information that is not needed to resolve a support request.

2. How we use information

We use this information to:

  • deliver purchases and provide trials;
  • validate licenses, generate online or offline authorizations, enforce purchased seat quantities, and prevent unauthorized key sharing or fraud;
  • operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website, Software, and licensing systems;
  • provide customer support and communicate about purchases, licenses, updates, and service issues;
  • send newsletters or promotional messages when you request them;
  • administer refunds, disputes, and chargebacks with Gumroad; and
  • comply with law and enforce our End-User License Agreement.

Where European Economic Area or United Kingdom data-protection law applies, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing our products and business, compliance with legal obligations, and your consent where consent is required, including for optional marketing messages.

3. How we disclose information

We disclose information only as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above:

  • Gumroad processes purchases, license verification, transaction records, refunds, and mailing-list subscriptions as merchant of record and licensing provider.
  • Netlify and other infrastructure providers host and deliver the website and server functions and may process technical logs and licensing requests on our behalf.
  • YouTube provides videos embedded in parts of the website and may receive information when you load or interact with an embedded video.
  • Discord and email providers process communications when you choose to contact us through those services.
  • Professional advisers, authorities, or successor businesses may receive information when reasonably necessary to obtain advice, comply with law, protect rights and security, or complete a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale of the business or relevant assets.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy notices where they act independently. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

4. License keys and installation identifiers

License keys and installation identifiers function as security and licensing data. Online and offline activation submit the product name, license key, installation identifier, and related validation information to nvk.tools and its licensing provider to validate the license and generate the authorization result.

The legacy offline-authorization process places the product name, license key, and installation identifier in an authorization link. Treat that link as confidential and do not post it publicly or send it through an insecure channel. The authorization page removes these values from the visible browser address after it loads where technically practical, but the original request may still appear temporarily in browser, network, or hosting records.

The legacy installation identifier is derived from the local REAPER resource path. The newer licensing scheme derives an identifier from a platform machine identifier and sends only a salted one-way hash; the underlying platform identifier remains on the computer. The licensing version used by the applicable Software determines which method applies.

We limit the activation response returned to your browser to the authorization result needed by the Software. We do not intentionally return the associated Gumroad purchaser record to the browser.

5. Retention

We retain purchase and licensing information while a license remains valid and afterward as reasonably necessary to document the transaction, provide support, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

Support communications are retained for as long as reasonably useful to respond to the request, maintain support history, and protect legal rights. Mailing-list information is retained until you unsubscribe or the list is discontinued. Netlify retains function activity logs for at least 24 hours and, depending on the service plan, up to 7 days. nvk.tools does not currently configure a third-party analytics, monitoring, or log-drain service for this website. Other hosting, security, and diagnostic records are retained according to the applicable provider's settings and policies and are deleted or de-identified when no longer reasonably needed.

6. Your choices and rights

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in an email. Transactional, security, licensing, and support communications are not marketing messages.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; or to withdraw consent. You may also have a right to complain to your local data-protection authority. These rights may be subject to legal exceptions, including when information must be retained to provide a license, prevent fraud, document a transaction, or comply with law.

To make a privacy request, email support@nvk.tools. We may need to verify that the request relates to you before acting on it.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards intended to protect information. No transmission, storage system, or security measure is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your license key confidential.

8. International processing

nvk.tools and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we rely on legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.

9. Changes to this notice

We may update this Privacy Notice to reflect changes to our practices, providers, or legal obligations. We will post the updated notice here and revise the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide additional notice when required by law.
